How to Build a Roofing Review System That Fills Your Pipeline

Google reviews are the #1 trust signal for roofing customers. Here's how to build a system that collects them automatically, at the right time, without begging.

    Why reviews matter for roofers

When a homeowner needs a roof repair or replacement, they Google it. They look at the top 3 results. Then they look at the reviews. If you have 8 reviews and your competitor has 47, you lose. Even if your work is better.

Reviews are not just vanity. They are the first thing a homeowner sees before they ever call you. A strong review profile means more calls, better-qualified calls, and higher close rates.

The problem with most review systems

Most roofers handle reviews like this: finish a job, say "we'd appreciate a review," and hope. The homeowner says "sure" and never does it. Here's why:

    • You asked at the wrong time (while they're still dealing with insurance or cleanup).
    • You made it too hard (no direct link, no simple instructions).
    • You asked once and never followed up.
    • You didn't ask at the moment of maximum satisfaction.

When to ask (timing is everything)

The best time to ask for a review is when the customer is happiest. For roofers, that's:

    • Right after the final inspection passes. The job is done, the roof looks great, and the homeowner is relieved.
    • After the final payment is processed. They've committed. They feel good about the decision.
    • 3 to 7 days after completion. They've had time to show the roof to their neighbor. The excitement is still fresh.

Do not ask during the job. Do not ask before the final payment. Do not ask 30 days later when the novelty has worn off.

How to ask without being awkward

    Here's a script that works:

"Hey [Name], great news — your roof passed final inspection. Before I head out, can I ask you a quick favor? If the experience was good, a Google review helps us a lot. It takes about 90 seconds. I'll text you the link right now so you don't have to search for it."

Then text the link immediately. While they're standing there. The conversion rate on in-person asks with an instant link is 5 to 10 times higher than email follow-up.

    Building a review collection system

A review system doesn't need to be complicated. Here's what it looks like:

    1. Post-job trigger: When a job is marked "complete" in your system, automatically send a review request text 48 hours later.
    2. Direct link: Use a shortened Google review link, not your homepage. One click, one review.
    3. Follow-up: If no review after 5 days, send one polite follow-up. Then stop.
    4. Track who reviewed: Don't ask the same customer 3 times. Mark them as "reviewed" in your CRM.
    5. Respond to every review: Both positive and negative. Google sees activity. Customers see you care.

This is exactly what the post-job review workflow in the Booked-Estimate System does. It triggers automatically, sends the right message at the right time, and tracks who has and hasn't reviewed.

    Summary

Reviews are the #1 trust signal for roofing customers. The key is asking at the moment of maximum satisfaction, making it one-click easy, and following up once. A system that does this automatically will fill your review profile faster than any manual effort.
